Another Steam Sale Round Has Ended - and It’s the Last One

Unfortunately, this sale confirmed what I had feared: almost no one is interested in the game or its concept. Wishlist additions over the past few years have been almost nonexistent, showing there’s simply no demand.

Exipelago is now officially a hobby project. I’ve invested a lot of time and money, and I would be fine with that if at least a community existed - a group of players excited about the game enough to motivate me to keep adding features and content. But that never happened. The recent hostility on Reddit only made it clear that almost no one cares. Even with 10,000 views and 45% upvotes, the fact that two people had mental breakdowns and no one stepped in does not inspire confidence. It feels like working completely alone, and that’s no foundation for continuing development.

The game was always about technical challenges (which I solved) and creating a platform for players to explore and extend. I had a blast building it. Exipelago is now a rich village builder/simulation with creative and survival modes, procedural systems, and workshop capabilities - technically, it can be expanded infinitely by the community. Unfortunately, there is no community. Discord never exceeded 50 members, the subreddit barely exists, the game never reached even 10 reviews, and forums are almost empty (9 members including me). The reality is clear: the community has spoken.

Despite multiple years of development, the game never reached 2,000 wishlists. The demo was maintained, the game is functional, bug-free, and full of mechanics to explore. In my opinion, it’s worth at least the equivalent of a New York pizza.

I’m concluding the project for now. I may eventually release a Version 1, as Early Access triggered unnecessary hate and wrong accusations, but I feel no urgency. I might add a few features if I have the time, as there is some I would be interested in by myself.

This post isn’t a plea for sympathy or funding. All I ever asked for was commitment, enthusiasm, and support.

To the small number of players who actively supported Exipelago: you’re amazing. Simply owning the game in your library makes you special in my eyes. Early Access buyers may receive some goodies in the future if technically possible.

That said .. if a wonder happens and the game suddenly get's supporters .. I'll be here to make it happen.
